Fuel firm seek delay on legislation

Andrew Brons has been contacted by a fuel service company asking him to investigate whether it is possible persuade the European Parliament to postpone an Energy Using Products (EuP) Directive which will prohibit oil fired cooking and heating from 2013.

The company is hoping that Andrew can lobby for a delay on the legislation until 2018 by which time the 1.1 million homes still heated by oil and not served with gas will have found an alternative energy supply.

Andrew told the director of the company:

"I am sympathetic to your request and will ask one of our researchers for a briefing on this matter. In the meanwhile, I shall contact our administrator at the European Parliament to find out when the legislation is due."
